My word is “sharp.” I looked up the definition, then I started to walk up and down the line to find inspiration. Then the idea of sharp curves, and turning in a sharp direction came to me. My ideas have changed along the way as I have more deeply understood and explored the word sharp. My first project was a compass, representing the sharp direction that the line follows. Then I got interested in making sharp arrow installations on the line out of found natural materials on the line. My final project is made out of pointy sticks and string tied to the stick connecting them. I displayed these in a line with sharp angles. It’s installed between Cohen Studio and an Alfred State dorm, crossing the stream. It’s kind of like I made my own line with this string, but instead of begin perfectly straight, mine has sharp corners and curves on it.
